A scene: a consecutive series of pictures that constitutes a unit of action in a film, that happens in a single location and continous time. In film, shot refers to a continuous strip of a motion picture, created of series of frames, that runs for an uninterrupted period of time. A shot in production, defined by the beginning and end of a capturing process, is equivalent to a clip in editing.
Watch a scene in a movie (the extract from Elf, 2003), and write down the different shots used and why you think they used those shots in that order.

Write down all the camera movements (e.g. "pan to left, to follow the car)! What is special in the shots and camera movements? What is the function of the last movement (crane down)? What should it mean?
